I am a sleepwalker/sleep eater. I have never choked or burnt the house down. I once drove to Taco Bell, and that led me to seek medical help. The doctor put me on Trazadone. It curbed the sleepwalking, but it also made me zoned out all day.

I would say, put something in front of the door to the bedroom, so that you will wake if he tries to leave the room. Then wake him and bring him back to the bed.

As far as I know, this is not dangerous- just annoying if you are trying to shed the pounds. :)

I have been a sleep eater for years and your husband definitely needs to go
to a sleep disorder doctor.  Although I have not found a cure, there are medications
that work for some people.  He should have a sleep study done also to be sure
that he does not have sleep apnea which can also lead to getting up in the night
and doing strange things like eating. Research the American Academy of
Sleep Medicine accredited doctors in your area as they seem to be more
versed on this.

Some medications can have this side effect, and sometimes it is a sleep disorder unrelated to meds. Sleep eating is a sleep disorder, and if the doctor he saw doesn't know how to help him, it's time to see another doctor, maybe a sleep doctor.
