Sleep paralysis

Every now and then I have a problem sleeping usually when I fall asleep during the day on the couch or when I stay home sick. I'm 16 years old and this has happened more than often. When it happens I fall asleep but it feels like I'm still awake. For example I can feel the texture of the couch and I can hear what show is playing on the tv. I sometimes feel a weight sitting on my chest making it hard for me to breathe (especially when I'm sick and have to breathe through my nose). I can move my finger tips, flicker my eyelids open, and hum loud noises attempting to scream for help. When I wake up it's almost as if Something was making me hold my breathe. Trying to open my eye lids move my finger tips or talking when I have this makes my heart rate sky rocket and I lose almost all my energy. Last night was the first time I had it before I went to sleep. I fell asleep with the tv off which I usually don't do. And sure enough something was sitting on my chest scaring the crap out of me. I couldn't move and it sounded like something was in the room and It almost sounded like someone was laughing. Please reply back ASAP and tell me what I could do to fix this

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Hello and hope you are doing well.

What you are experiencing could be hallucinations and delusions and they can occur with certain medications, stress, sleep deprivation, in certain brain disorders and with schizophrenia or bipolar disorders. When sleep paralysis happens in sleep the person has difficulty moving his hands or feet. This is the symptom of a sleep disorder called Narcolepsy. You will need to consult your primary care physician for assessment.

Hope this helped and do keep us posted.
