I am by no means an expert, but only know about the symptoms of narcolepsy since I just had a sleep study a few days ago. The tech explained that a common misconception is that narcolepsy is just basically "falling asleep in your cereal bowl". It is not however. The major symptom is EDS, excessive daytime sleepiness. Since it is a neurological disorder, your brain keeps telling your body it is tired regardless of how much sleep you get. Sleep paralysis upon waking or falling asleep is another along with vivid dream-like hallucinations, both because the brain enters REM sleep too quickly or upon waking your brain is still on REM. lastly, cateplexy, with extreme emotions or stress (muscle tone loss). I would ask your doctor to have a sleep study and MLST. Multiple latency sleep test. It may be able to diagnose your sleep (if you have one) and those 2 tests for narcolepsy as well. Good luck
Hello and hope you are doing well.
It could just be that you are tired and need more sleep. Just give yourself more time to sleep/rest. If the symptoms still do not resolve, then you have to get assessed for sleep disorders. Certain sleep disorders like obstructive sleep apnea can cause disturbed sleep and hence the need to sleep more. And others like narcolepsy can cause excessive sleepiness per say.
If it persists or is troublesome consult your doctor for assessment.
Hope this helped and do keep us posted.
It's 6.40 pm and I managed to stay awake and do somethings but now I'm really tired again and just wanna sleep
Yea I guess I don't have narcolepsy but I really feel tired and just wanna sleep. It's like fatigue but emotionally exhausted too. I'm depressed but I'm trying to be social and do stuff around ppl but in my personal life, I'm really exhausted
Narcolepsy is when you fall asleep very suddenly, with no control over it, like a lightswitch being turned off. Narcoleptics can be sitting up (or standing even) and then fall, when their brains switch to sleep mode.
You sound very depressed, lalila, reading through all your posts.
Exhaustion, hopelessness, forgetfulness, sadness, a willingness to put up with relationships that are using you, etc., are all very classic symptoms of depression.
I notice my neck hurts too cos maybe I fell off my pillow
