Teeth grinding at night

In the last 3 or 4 weeks i have been waking up after grinding my teeth, my psychologist seems to think it may have started because i was manic ( i have bipolar disorder) but now that i have majorly crashed into depression i still get it. I will wake up 2 or 3 times a night because of the sound it makes in my brain. My jaw it clenched a lot of the time but i only grind my teeth while asleep. I am worried that it will cause major damage to my teeth if it is left and not treated. i have tried looking up relaxation jaw techniques, i have brought a mouth tray to protect my teeth but nothing has helped and the mouth tray makes it worse. After being manic for 3 weeks i don't have ANY money left to go to a dentist or other professional that might be able to help, so i was wondering if any of you have experienced this, and what caused it and how you treated it and made it go away?

Thank you.

Hello,

Grinding teeth while sleeping is called bruxism. This can occur due to malocclusion of teeth or due to psychological stress. If it occurs repeatedly as an everyday episode it is likely to cause teeth damage. So, understand your predicament, but you need to check for malocclusion of teeth and counseling for anxiety and stress and wait and watch.

You could try yoga and meditation they have calming effects. Go for long stress free walks. If things are really bogging you down and you need help consult your primary care physician, he will guide you appropriately.

Take Care and Hope this helps!
