Throwing yourself out of bed, can this happen???

Last night I woke up from hearing myself screaming. As my eyes opened I realized I was in the middle of the room on the floor. Not my bed. Talk about freaking out. I also immediately felt pain on my knees. Did I throw myself to the ground? Sleepwalk and fall? I’m a logical person but this certainly has me perplexed. Especially since I woke up from hearing my myself scream and not the pain from obviously hitting the hard wooden floor.

This has never happened to me before. I’m 28 years old, healthy and don’t take any daily medication. Has this ever happened to anyone else? Or know someone who has experienced this?

Hello and hope you are doing well.

Disorders related to dreaming could occur with REM sleep behavior disorders. Here the person acts out the dreams. Your symptoms of screaming in sleep could also be due to  sleep disorders “Nightmare” or "Night terror" disorders . Here the person experiences symptoms of bad, frightening dreams which interfere with his sleep schedules. This is usually assessed by a set of questionnaires and the therapy is based on the severity of the disorder. A sleep study could further help to diagnose.

Please consult your primary care physician if problem persists.

Hope this helped and do keep us posted.

I threw myself out of bed for the third time in 6 months, waking up trying to push someone in my way, etc. Twice it was due to a nightmare..Always some upsetting dream. I don't know what to do other than work through it in my dreams. It is very upsetting, and leaves me.in shock for a couple of days. Also very painful as I land on my knees, and.twice have hit my temple on the corner of.the. nightstand, close to my eye. So I understand how shocking and upsetting it is. I feel like I need railings on the.bed! And a larger, former mattress so the.sides.aren't sloping and.easy to roll off of. I.hope.you can find some peace.of.mind and a good night's sleep. Also, I urge.you to put down thick carpet.next to the bed, to.protect your knees, wrists, shoulders, and head.
