Too much watery saliva produced...

For as long as I can remember about once every six months or so I'll have problems sleeping because I produce excess watery saliva.  It'll get to the point where I'll be producing so much that my stomach will start to hurt due to swallowing too much saliva, my throat will hurt, and I can't sleep because I keep having to spit out my saliva every 10 seconds.

It's sort of hard to explain, but it's really annoying because it will happen at random times for apparently no reason at all.  Every time this happens I know I won't be getting any sleep that night.  It's currently 5:50 and I have been up for an hour and thirty minutes spitting out saliva because I can't get back to sleep.  My stomach and throat hurts and I'm currently filling up a water bottle with saliva because I can't bear to swallow it any more.

I'm a healthy, active, 20 year old who doesn't take any medications.  I do not smoke, dip, or partake in any unhealthy habits.

Advice would be amazing.  I'm so tired of having this problem and after scouring the internet and finding nothing on it, I decided to finally post something.

Is there any way to stop saliva production or slow it down during these nights?  Perhaps by eating something?

According to Persian traditional medicine it's caused by a cold and wet mezaj.  Consuming too much dairy products such as yoghurt, water, and fruits and vegetables with high water content such as water melon, peach, or lettuce would increase coldness and humidity.

Its amazing that TOO many, just too many western friends got this problem too, as I am a Chinese. But I finally cured this!

If you want to get this problem out of your mouth forever, then careful read what I will comment below:

First I will say, western medical level is superb than any medical science system include Asia countries etc, but is that mean the western medicine can cure all ailments? No, it can't. Thats why no doctors can give you guaranteed way to 100% cure it.

So how to cure this excess saliva symptom?

You should use Chinese tradition medicine, in CTM system, spleen and stomach got interlinked with your saliva!!!!!!!!! So a healthy human with strong spleen and stomach should produce normal saliva, but when your spleen and stomach become weak? You get it!

So now, we all get the reason, spleen and stomach weak! How to cure? You can ask your doctor to get medicines to strong these organs, and keep a 1 month cure to test, you will thank me!

A Chinese medicine is very effective to cure this, I ate 1 month and get fully cured, its just like, reborn.

(contact me for more info if you need more help,  I am not trying to sell sth, my mail 1902652259  at  qq  *******, you can send me message via this mail )

Wish all of you get this cured by my guideline.

this has just been happening to me. last night, i woke up two times, on my side, and my stomach did not feel good, i felt nausea and my mouth was producing a lot of exessive saliva. the first time, i swallowed it till i was sick. but, the second time i start spitting it out. i woke up because of it and i still feel sick now. i looked up "excessive saliva" and i saw it could be because i ate to many starchy foods. i don't know what happened. Im only 12.

Try eating greasy fries. They make it feel better. And you may need to vomit the saliva you swallowed because it hurts or feels uncomfortable. Or sleep with a towel rag in your mouth so it absorbs it without you having to spit or swallow

Same here regarding all symptoms described above.

I've talked to numerous doctors, and they don't have a clue (as most of us have figured out).

It's 3:30am and I'm dealing with it now. Super frustrating. All I can do is lay on my stomach and create a massage-style bed so I can just drool it out into a bowl and hopefully manage a couple hours of sleep. My remedy usually consists of weed and coffee. Coffee gives me a bit of dry mouth and speeds up the rough digestion of the weed in my gut, and weed also helps increase dry mouth and the nausea from the spit sitting in my gut. Once I start walking around I notice it is gone by early afternoon, but ultimately I concede a terrible night's sleep.

The big question is WHY. As I observe patterns, I've boiled it down to what I ate for dinner before I went to bed. Usually milk and cheese are avoided (in excess) before bed, but starch is the biggest trigger I've observed. Keep an eye out on really cheap noodles.

But other than that, I'm as confused as you guys are. If you've observed patterns of triggers or have other remedy suggestions, please throw them up here. This is a super-debilitating condition, and pretty gross. Hang in there everyone.

Hello,

Since I was 13 I wake up every 3 hours with my mouth full of saliva. I can't swallow it because it's a large quantity and it is also disgusting. I have to spit it all the time and then rinse my mouth with mouthwash and / or brush my teeth. I am now 24 and something really unexpected happened. 2 weeks ago I injured my heel after a jump. I had an inflammation of the tissues which made walking very painful. I limped for a week but then it healed. All the time my heel was painful, my body stopped producing all this saliva, but went my foot stopped hurting, it went back again for about 4 days. Now it doesn't wake me up during the night anymore, but I still have a bt of saliva in the morning when I wake up. There has been a huge improvement following my foot injury and Icannot explain why but a doctor may. There is still hope :)

Please, try drinking some --**Lemon Concentrate **  try it in a small amount ok -- if not sick with an illness, any excitement can lead to salivation excess or decrease-- also, try not to get drinks with corn syrup-- corn syrup allergies also can cause salivation problems majorly ok

There are medications that can decrease salivation, particularly in the class of drugs called "anti-cholinergics." You should see your doctor to inquire whether a medication would be appropriate for your case. I hope you get relief soon, H.

Okay so last night this was driving me to the point of insanity. I tried everything: The hot shower on the neck (nope), cereal with milk (no). I took 2 tums to calm the acidity, and I even tried to engage my sympathetic nervous system (aka the one that says STOP MAKING SALIVA YOU'VE GOT TO RUN FROM A DINOSAUR), still didnt' work. I did, however, stick a papertowel in my mouth, but I couldn't breathe through my nose and was sorta choking on it. I did not, however, try Benadryl! I still have to do that for next time, but I definitely recommend taking Benadryl, it sounds like it would work, also make you tired enough to sleep. lastly, stock up on that drug that causes dry mouth for next time, because it WILL happen again!! So in the end, I stuck a paper towel in my mouth, but I recommend using a wash cloth, and it sucked up a lot of moisture and then I just somehow fell asleep. Hope this helps, and that was honestly one of the worst experiences of my life--sorta glad other people are the same.

Had this problem for while too,at times it comes and goes but sometimes it takes longer than usual.. Try brushing at night and any of the above home therapy, but the taking of salt is very dangerous avoid that... if all those don't give you the desired relief, then De-worm yourself, worms av a way of irritating the throat causing so much saliva in d mouth giving you this kind of vomiting sensation, that the way i feel even during the day but worse at night without any activities to put my mind of it.. I do this at times too and it works for me.. hoping you find this information helpful.

It seems many people have this problem. I do too. It is not DURING sleep the saliva produces as some people say, that's like drooling. It's just overproducing while I am awake and I stay up because it fills my mouth and I have to either spit it out or swallow. And it keeps me up for atleast an hour or two and causes alot of gas and bloating. I use to get it very often when I was younger especially when I can't sleep. But all of a sudden I am having it again twice this week and right now. UGH HOW ANNOYING. I wonder if there is some kind of underlying disorder us salivating excess people have? Any ways what I usually do is breath with my mouth and soon I fall asleep and it suddenly turns off the saliva switch. If I pay too much attention it will only get into a worse pattern. Goodluck to all and I hope there is a solution!!
