Waking up each night

Recently I have had issues with staying asleep. I don't drink a lot of caffeine and I stay rather busy through out my day. I come home and go to bed after work and I'm asleep in no time. Yet for some reason exhausted or not I have been waking up randomly through out the night. I than have trouble going back to bed. This leaves me exhausted the next day. I do have sleeping medicine but I only take it as needed and being it isn't needed when I go to bed I don't take it, and I don't wanna take it in the middle of the night and not be able to get up in the morning. Is this normal though. I am 20 years old as well.

I do not intend to say anything here that conflicts with the advice above.

Given you have (prescription) sleeping pills, I think it worth a try taking a dose before going to bed for a few nights to see if that helps you sleep through the night  This is information I think you doctor would find helpful.. the doctor who prescribed the medicine?

Hi, changes in sleep routines can happen occasionally. But persistent inability to sleep could be problems with initiating sleep or maintaining sleep is called insomnia. Problems with breathing (Obstructive sleep apnea), certain medications, restless leg movements and sleep walking/talking could contribute to insomnia. Follow good sleep hygiene measures like going to bed at the same time, waking up at the same time, avoidance of alcohol, smoking and caffeinated beverages. Also, do exercise in the daytime this promotes good sleep. Please consult your primary care physician if problem persists. Regards.
