Dreams and nightmares occur every night when we go into deep sleep, but we usually forget them by the next day. Don't worry about them.

Stress is sometimes the culprit.  Excessive stress above and beyond what you normally experience.  But whatever the source, do not let this worry you.  Nightmares are only dreams.  And dreams, regardless of emotional content, cannot hurt you.  You are safe in letting go the worry, and reminding yourself of that repeatedly even in the middle of the night.
