im having really bad trouble sleeping. i usually (school nights) go to bed at about 9/10ish but it takes me an hour or so to sleep. so i started going to bed earlier at 6ish (i got very tired, but when i got to bed i was wide awake) but didnt fall asleep till gone 8ish. because of the holidays ive been watching films in bed till about 1 in the morning, but dont fall asleep till a good hour or so later, and im not even tired, im wide awake. im just worried because school starts again in two days and im gonna have to be getting up at seven so im going to be very tired, any advice? im 15 and a girl.

Hi. Have you done any reading on the subject of sleep hygiene? That could give you some ideas if there are any changes you could make to enhance falling asleep. One of the bigest sleep inhibitors is worrying about sleep. Too much pressure to relax! Start cutting the bright lights (computer & TV) a while before you need to be in bed. Avoid late caffiene, and try not to eat a lot real late. You have to send your body and brain all the right signals that it's time to slow down and prepare to sleep. On tomorrow, get up early and don't take a nap and hopefully that will set the stage for getting back on schedule. If it takes a few days to get back in sync, just know it's temporary and it will be better soon. Best wishes going back to school.

My daughter (17) often has had the same difficulty & the problem is getting out of routine. At 15 I'd suggest that you go to bed at about 10 pm but start winding down about 9.30pm. Have a warm shower or bath, get into your PJs, and have a warm drink. A milky drink such as hot chocolate is good as milk contains Tryptohan which is a natural sedative. Then into bed with no TV etc but read for half an hour or listen to an audio book, then light out & snuggle down. It works for my daughter but does sometimes take 2-3 days of this to get back into a good pattern. Good luck & happy new year. SueLR

I have the same problem, You sould read or watch tv for a while then sleep but don't force yourself to sleep because it doesn't work. If you think you can't take it though you sould talk to your doctor.
