dreams

i have had this dream for more than once ,where i can see my self exactly where i am sleeping ,but i cant catch my breath ,its like if i am trying to breath but cant or like something is trying to pull my spirit out,i try to call for help ,my mouth is moving but there are no words coming out.
the dream is always so real ,i am not sure if i was dreaming anymore....since it happened more than once the exact same way...and i was kind of aware of where am i and who  i am sleeping next ,but i was always helpless without breath, cant talk ,trying to fight this thing that i cant even see....its just me,in reality,so if i am in a hotel room i will see or feel my self in that room if i was at home the same thing ,and someone is trying to steal my spirit or smthn.
how ever i always have this black out after it then wake up perfectly fine.......i hope the is a reasonable medical explanation for this .

thank you
best regards

What you are discribing are episodes of sleep hallucinations and sleep paralysis. I have been dealing with them since I was about 18 years old (now 29). It is a classic symptom of Narcolepsy. I was diagnossed through a sleep study about 1 1/2 years ago. It wasn't until I was diagnosed that I researched the disorder and found out that I wasn't just having realistic nightmares!

Are you tired even after a good night's sleep? Do you find it hard to stay asleep at night (frequent wakings)? These are all other signs. Most people think of Narcolepsy as the "fall asleep while talking" disorder. Yes, that can be the case, but most of the time you are dealing with really groggy periods during the day where you energy leaves and all you want is a nap. Then 5 or 10min later you forget that you where ever tired.

I would contact you PCP and  he/she can determine if you should see a neurologist. If this is what you have, don't worry, it's manageable. Let me know if this info helps, I know those "dream" are terrifying. I find that I get them when I am overheated (too many blankets, or hot in the room). Not sure if there is a link...just a FYI! :)

If I were you I would get a sleep study ASAP. I was having similar type dreams when I first starting using a cpap machine for my sleep apnea. It was an issue with the machine settings and I was actually struggling to get enough air to survive at night. Fixed the problem and the dying dreams/OBE's went away.
