My husband has been on Ambien CR for 9 months. His sleep doctor prescribed this for sleep apnea. Is this really safe? He is supposed to use his CPAP machine along with the meds., but he has not used the machine in months. Is this really good, safe intelligent treatment for sleep apnea?

I don't know much about sleep apnea. However my daughter suffers from it and, in her case at least, it is caused by inflamed nasal passages. She is taking supplements and herbals to reduce the inflammation and is sleeping much better.

I also have sleep apnea. few things can happen here. 1) he was probably given the ambien cr to help sleep with cpap machine. 2) he can stop breathing (totally) in the night. and another issue is it hurts your heart and other organs over time. people dont use it and they can die. I use mine every night. a cpap is a very uncomfortable thing. it take time to get use to it. try to get him to use it.
