I have been on the lozenges for THREE YEARS... man I use them like I would a cig.. if i don't put a lozenge in my mouth it's like giving up cigs did I craved sweets like a crazy woman...
I have been using the nicotine lozenges for over a year now. I keep telling myself that I am going to stop using them but when I get down to my last few I kinda panic like I used to when I was smoking and was down to my last cigarette.
I may be Nicotrol that justababe spoke it. I believe it is a prescription item. My dr. suggested it when I was starting to quit smoking, and I did buy it, but used the Commit Lozenges instead (since 12/13/07). I hate the Commits, but like you am finding it hard to get off them. In another site on Med Help, someone posted a site - WhyQuit.com which seems like a great suggestion. I went to the site, then e-mailed my question on how to get off Commit Lozenges to: ***@**** His rep e-mailed me two of their reports - haven't read them, but am hoping they will be helpful. You may want to try that.

well you could try the NICORETTE INHALER thing i dont kno if they have it in america or wateva but they have it here in australia, it might look stupid inhaling through it in public but at least give it a go, its about the size of a normal ciggy and wen you start to crave you jus remove the lid and start inhaling, wen ur done jus put the cap back on.
I tried quitting using Commit too...I used it for about 3 days. I had a scheduled dental appointment and he commented about the ulcers in my mouth and when I told it what it was from, he told me to throw them away.
It's not uncommon to transfer addictions but usually it's Nicorette.
Try reading the articles at whyquit.com. I found it easier (as if it could ever be : ) to break the habit when I understood my need for it and what my triggers were.
Nicotine withdrawal is 72 hours and then, it's over. I think you have already exorcised you emotional addiction : )
I smoked for 40 years and it was the hardest thing I have ever done, but, by far, the absolute best thing I have ever done (aside from my kids).
Good luck....we are here for you if you need some support : )

You're absolutely correct that I am addicted to the nicotine.
It's not the Commit that you are addicted to, it's the nicotine in the Commit.
I too have used Commit Lozenges for 2 yrs. I cannot seem to give them up I am so sick of them. Why can't I just tell myself stop taking them and do it? Anyone out there besides 8sunny8 & me who are addicted to the Commit Lozenges.
I agree with Jade. I wish I could offer more but addictions of any sort needs to be dealt with in the same manner......just stop and deal with the withdrawals. Nicotine addiction will generally last 72 hours and once it's over, it's over. I would imagine, because Commit lozenges has a certain amount of nicotine in it, it may take the same amount. Try substituting. Jade gave a very good example.....perhaps celery and or carrot sticks too.
Whatever you do, don't replace one addiction with another. You did it with Commit and the gum is the same thing.....just stop, you CAN DO IT!
We are here for you should you need us. Good luck!
I can only assume you either force yourself to cut back and eventually stop all together or just stop. I'm sure it will be uncomfortable, but maybe not as bad as you think? Have you tried?
I would also imagine you now have the habit of...um...(the word I was going to use probably won't go through so I'll say having something in your mouth) so maybe replace the commit with some sugar free candy to satisfy that habit.
There are so many people addicted to the gum and lozenge nowadays, I bet there's a support site for that if you do a google search.
Best of luck to you!
