Its been 17 days for me.I quit using chantix.i smoke the first week on them but I keep in mind I wasn't allowed to smoke the second week in.It only took the two weeks but for everyone it varies. That's something you may try.

Yes, congrats, Lou!  Oh, that's so sweet, the sticker chart.  How could you possibly let your kids down.  You've got some great support going on.  I'm at 3wks today, myself.  My 4th try in 3yrs (smoked since 14, 50 now and never quit before 07) and this time I just made up my mind...at least I hope I have...and so far so good.  Other than the side effects of my system getting used to not having nicotine in it, I'm doing pretty well so far.

Keep up the good work, Lou.  Do check out whyquit if you have some time.  It's a great website and has helped many here on this forum, alone.  The meter is a nice visual to help you along and you can also start an addiction tracker here.  I have one and it gives me a charge to check off each day I haven't smoked.  Just seeing the number of days quit on my profile is an added incentive.

Congrats on your quit Lou! It's very tough, especially the first few months but you are so right about telling the world about your quit....it hold you accountable and it also makes you try extra hard : )

There is a wonderful website that has helped me through many rough times. Whyquit.com has been there for me, lecturing me and helping me understand my addiction. You can also download a neat meter!

I used the gum for the cravings, however my main help was that I told as many people as possible that I was quitting, so if I wanted a cigarette, I just thought of all those people that would be disappointed in me. Also my children made me a sticker chart. Every day without a smoke they give me a sticker on my chart, and I just can't let them down. Have u got children or grandchildren, nieces or nephews, that could do same for you. I smoked since I was 12. Now 27 and been smoke free for 3 weeks and 3days. It's tough as hell but so worth it. Food tastes so much better and my sense of smell is gradually coming back. Feel a lot better too. Good luck x

Congrats to you on a week quit!

I remember the first few weeks well : ( I will make you a promise that if you stay quit, by your 6 month anniversary you will feel 75% better....by your year, it is 90% and by 1 1/2 years it is 100%. You may think about them every now and then, but you will finish that thought with "how could I have not quit before this."

You can download a free quit meter at whyquit.com. Mine is "Quit Time"

Good luck to you....Jade59 is also starting her quit and has about the same amount of time

Why not try hypnosis again?  It worked well for you the first time.  My mom quit through hypnosis also and hasn't smoked since 88 so it certainly works.  You have to make up your mind, though, ladybug.  The aids DO work...in the right frame of mind :)

And Kathy Jo is right about reading the articles at whyquit.  Very helpful and enlightening.

Good luck to you!

Try reading the articles at whyquit.com. If you understand your addiction and try to work on the "whys" then it will be that much easier to quit.
The withdrawal is 72 hours, 3 days but more than the physical aspect you will have to deal with the emotional addiction which is the toughest. If you know why you smoke and work on it, then it helps a great deal.

The most important part of the quit though is wanting to do it. There is no one that "can't quit" and as a smoker of 40 years who once believed that I would die a smoker, I have proven myself wrong : )
If you want to, you will, good luck!
