coffee and other triggers

Did anyone who sucessfully quit have to give up your coffee because it made you want that cigarette? What did you replace it with?

Well I sure don't want anything to make it harder but I love my coffee. I read at whyquit that
nicotine is both relaxing and a stimulant. Then our coffee is yet more stimulant so we are actually breaking several things at once, not to mention all the chemicals our brains are use to, no wonder I'm so grouchy. Thanks

hey girl.....thats a problem I struggle with too..my coffee and cigarettes were my morning!!
I chew nicorrette with the coffee for the first few weeks. probably not a great idea but it did break the 'habit' now I'm working on 6 weeks and rarely chew anymore...
first stop the smoking, than stop the habits, than withdraw from the cravings..slowly,...for me anyway. each of us has to find our own unique way of dealing with this addiction...wishing you tons of success! :o)

I never gave up my coffee but I admit it made it more difficult.
I don't think of coffee as a trigger but more of a habit. When you wake up, your body craves both nicotine and caffeine so it's only natural to smoke and drink. That is part of the physical and mental addiction and should be fairly easy to break. It's similar to smoking after a meal. Try replacing it with juice or water, both are good for you and will help with the urge.
Good luck!
