thanks for the advice. it's not so much that i want to  quit as it is that i need to. i just got laid off and its a very expensive habit.  i have seen the effects of it and it grosses me out but i just cant seem to kick it. i  have self confidence issues so that may have alot to do with it

That is one habit I have not been able to stop ever!!! LOL!! I think it's the hardest....But, the one time I came very close was one i got a rx for Chantix, it actually worked well, but was so expensive i could not afford to refill the rx and started to smoke again.  But, it blocks the nicotine receptors in the brain, so you smoke the first week while taking it and then you actually begin to notice that you are smoking our of habit and not out of craving.  I worked in a dr. office and chantix worked for many of our patients....if possible see your dr for a script......hope it helps!!  Good luck!!

I too quit with Chantix and my side effects were minimal......bad dreams and a little stomach upset, but it was a small price to pay for getting back my life, which, after smoking for 40 years I never thought would or could happen : )
In addition to Chantix, I also found whyquit.com, which supports a "cold turkey" quit....everyone has access to the articles regardless of the method you choose to aid in your quit. You really have to want to and then, every time you get a crave or become anxious, read an article at whyquit. I see myself in every article and that has really helped me to stay "quit".
Good luck!

I smoked since I was 13 and quit when I was 34.I had tried stopping a few times before, and of course quit while pregnant.First off,you have to WANT to quit for YOU-not anyone else.I personally am a fan of Chantix. It's a pill from your doctor, taken for min. of 3 mos. (I did 5 to be on "safe side").It is specifically designed to block the nicotine receptors in your brain-the triggers that make you want to  smoke. That is it's sole purpose unlike some other drugs out there (ie:wellbutrin). It's been over 1 year for me and I have had NO cravings at all.None.And this sounds strange,I know, but it's like it erased the experience of smoking from my memory. The only side effect I had were the nightmares. And they were BAD,but only for about 5 nights. If you aren't opposed to trying it,give it a shot.My insurance covered it.It's worth the cost my friend.Trust me.
