Ah, see?  A second person telling you Costochondritis.  Did you look it up?  It can be Very painful - I know - and can last for a short period or years such as in my case.  I fell on my chest on the corner or our table about 8yrs ago and while I've had the Costo since a child, the fall aggravated it to the point, I have to crack my chest for relief.  Then when I quit smoking and was no longer taking deep breathes, it got even worse.  There's a post by Bill something who explains what happens with the deep breathing and quitting smoking - I'll leave the link at the bottom - just click on it.

Not everyone has chest pain for *months* after quitting.  I just know that I did and many others that have come through this forum have complained of chest pain/tightness after quitting.  You can use the search in this community and enter "chest pain" and sift through some old posts to see for yourself what others have gone through.

With you, I think it's a combo of your chest injury and quitting smoking.  I would never say that if you hadn't been through so many tests to rule out anything serious.  I will also tell you, if you're prone to anxiety, quitting smoking will aggravate THAT as well.  I have GAD and after I quit, it was over 40days of near panic attacks before it died down and THEN, the depression set in for another 40days.  A *few weeks* of being uncomfortable for people who have smoked since childhood is a myth IMO, especially if you suffer from anxiety in the first place.

Good luck!

You've been smoking since you were 6? Did I read that right? I too have chest pain, they are telling me its costochondritis. Look up the symptoms. Now Ive got a lump on my chest/breast wall, that's killing me. Im going to the dr, tomorrow, and I better get answers. good luck to you.

If they haven't given you an EKG or a chest Xray I would get a second opinion. My uncle died from a massive heart attack because his dr gave him muscle relaxers instead of sending him to the hospital for a heart attack. Doctors are humans too, and personally I believe it's not worth the gamble.

I have only smoked for about 5 years (3 years straight, the other 2 were stop and goes). After I quit smoking I had headaches for several days, brain fogginess for a couple weeks (although it could have been cause by my other health problems) and then I did have occasional dizziness. However that fuzzy head and everything else all went away and definitely didn't last 4 months. Something sounds up. Demand a full evaluation because you never know, it could save your life.
