smoke trapped in lungs

Heres one doctors or anyone that will blow your mind away.  I quit smoking cold turkey march 18, not quite 3months...many many many years ago I had quit cold turkey for prob. almost 2 yrs.  I can do something now that I could do two years ago.  I get a coughing spell and it feels like my lungs are itchy as well as my throat, so I close my mouth, contract my stomach or lungs i don't know which, then i hoping my mouth as if i'm lightly letting my breath out, and a cloud of smoke will come out. People do not beleive me until they see it. If this has happened before how can i clear my lungs out? and if not, what type of doctor do i see?

Is it almost as if you are burping the smoke out?

That "smoke" you saw was not actually smoke. It was the result of compressing the air in your lungs that is heavily humid. The higher pressure that you created when you "contract my stomach or lungs" caused the air to become denser and thus caused the water particles in your breath to be large enough to be visible.

You can see this same effect when you pump up a BB gun and fire it without a BB in the chamber. You will see a very tiny puff of what appears to be steam exit from the barrel of the gun. Again, this is not smoke.

Therefore, you have no reason to be afraid that you have something wrong with you medically.

Congratulations on your quit! Make this your last quit and I'm sure you won't have to deal with the coughing and itches : )

The first 4 months of my quit were bad so I can relate with what you are saying. Just hang in there : )

You should see a pulmonary specialist and hopefully that will put your mind at ease.

Good luck and keep us posted!
