Epidural Steroids/Facet Injections

I've had severe cervical stenosis as well as herniated discs in my back. Prior to surgery I was told to try physical therapy, in which all honestly only makes my pain worse due to it being sore from exercising. The neurosurgeon recommended me to get epidural steroids and facet injections for pain management. I've been hesitating whether to do so because I'm not sure if it's safe. I am pretty sensitive to side effects as well. Has anyone had these done? I'd like to hear about your experiences.
