My first Yank

This is a true story of how I fell in love with an American..I was about 10 years old , living in England on an RAF base, my Dad being a serviceman.I had an older sister , and somehow or other she worked on an American Naval base not too far away .Well being a good looking English Gal she always had a trail of Yanks ,as we called American service men, hanging around, this one Sunday she brought one home, I never met one before ..he was so happy go lucky,so good looking in a rugged yank way, I was used to English curtesy and serious faces , so earnest the Brits lol  Any way he had the shortest hair I had ever seen ,a crew cut,he also talked 'funny' but I liked it .He had some chocolates for my Mom some booze for my Dad and a huge box of Wrigleys gum for me ...His name was Randy, now who calls their kid a name ;like that ...I thought  .Randy would swing by quite often after that, and they would walk to the local service theatre to see a movie , I would follow behind them much to my sisters chagrin,.I adored American  Hollywood movies and I went to see every one that came in . I would scream blue murder if they didnt let me go ..and trust me I could yell. To cut my tale short , my sister found a local guy to go out with a scottish guy she later married , but I never forgot my meeting with that first American ..I have been in love with them ever since ...

Oh this reminds me of when my DH was a kid back in the 2nd world war. His sister was going out with an American soldier based in Britain. This very generous guy used to bring things my DH had never seen before, like peanut butter, and chewing gum etc. He loved him like a brother

thank you, I spent my childhood adoring movies and Hollywood...I never dreamed in my wildest movements I would be fortunate to be an American one day .My back ground is plain olde English nothing else such a bunch of vikings in my long lost past ...One of the charms of America was seeing all the ethic faces and cultures, a hotch potch of humanity all coming for the American dream...

What a great story! It has always seemed funny to me for the British to give Americans the nickname, Yank, lol. I grew up, being from a southern culture, calling people from the northern states yankees. It's all good. I love the British Isles. I'm Scot, Irish, English, & Native American (Cherokee)....My Emt-Paramedic instructor was a female British ex- army nurse. We were so lucky to have her. I still pronounce medical terminology as the British do, lol.
