the day was ending ,and the boy was nervous ...tomorrow he was to be apprenticed to the old magician
he was an orphan who had been taken in by the local blacksmith..but the blacksmith had known early on that the boy was not fit for his trade ..to much intelligence to be wasted as a laborer...
the boy packed his meager belongings and set down for the night ,his thoughts racing he drifted to sleep....
morning...and the whole village gathered for the naming ceremony ...the day where all boys of the age of 12 were sent to new masters to learn the trades they would do for the rest of there lives ...garion sat and waited for his name to be called ..when it was his heart jumped ...he nervously got up and stood in front of the masters and the old magician smilled at him motioning him to stand with him ..garion moved over to him and stood ..heart pounding
he numbly waited for the ceremony to end ...
days past and the boy had become accustomed to his new tasks ..all his fears ..gone ..the old man was a kind and an easy task master ..the boys days were filled with books and some menial tasks of cleaning and cooking for the two of them ...days turned to weeks ..weeks turned to months ..and the boy was a natural the old man thought ..as he gave new lessons to garion ..garion had devoured everything the master had givin him to study and was always ready for more ...
one day the master had a troubled look on his face as he returned from the castle of the duke ...garion asked master whats wrong?.....the master said ..dark times are coming my boy...there is a black cloud coming over the land ..and no one knows the nature of it yet ..but whispers of prophecy are beginning to come forth ...garion sat and thought about what he was told ...the master said ..no more lessons today my boy ..i have much to think on this night ....

well i just started this story but i will post more in a couple days this one will be great

that night the boy sat and wondered what was coming? the stories he had heard were of the evils of the old times ,back before the great divide ,when the world was cracked and the monsters ,and dark lords were trapt by the wizards of all the lands ...in a great battle that lasted 20 years ...the losses of the land were great but the wizards had come out and unleashed mighty spells that cracked a rift and when it had opened it swallowed the evil hoarde and cast them into shadow ....but if they had returned what would that mean for him?
sleep came late for garion as his mind raced with thoughts of monsters that were told as stories to children ..
morning came and he rose for his lessons and walked threw the tower ..but all was silent..?master..? he called ...no answer..
down the stairs he went to the main entrance ..opened the door and saw the master ..talking with a group of mages the boy had not seen before ...they talked in hushed tones ..till garion was noticed ..then they as one looked at the boy ..stark looks and silence till the master smiled and said ..easy brothers ..this is my young apprentice ..the mood softened and one spoke to the master well?? he asked what are we to do now?..the master replied ...we do what we have to and prepare ...with that the group broke up and walked out threw the courtyard and dissapeared ...the old mage turned to garion and said ..well boy time to start you training in earnest now ... with a sad look in his eyes ...garions heart began to pound with excitment ..as they walked back into the tower ...
months passed and garion had forgotten the visit from the mages ..as he recited the words of power ..a glowing ball the size of an ostrich egg formed in his hand ..glowing green fire it rolled across his hand ..sweat beading his brow as concentration and effort were tested ..softly chanting the orb rose and stabilized and his hand lowered ..eyes closed he became silent as the orb slowly moved towards him enveloping his form ..but no outward emotion showed as garions body rose from the floor ...the roar of dragons in his
ears .......
the door opened and the fire surrounding garion shuttered and blinked out leaving the boy several feet off the floor blinking and ...bang he landed on his backside ..and with a starteled look and pain in his butt the master looked smiling at the boy and spoke ...with a smile well boy that was very well but you cant seem to hold on with distraction ...you must work on that ..garions face was a scowl of disapointment ...he knew he must but ...

garion had been throwing himself into learning as much as the master would teach ...but something was missing ..garion always saw threw the lessons as if they were a bit to easy ..and never could put a reason as to why ?..the master spoke suddenly ...garion enough for today boy ...trying to look scowling ..but garion new better ..smiling garion rose to his feet still wincing at the pain in his bottom ...replied ..yes master ..and hurried out of the room ..
as the master watched garion race acroos the yard to the living quarters... he stroked his beard with a deep frown acroos his brow ...in just one year garion had learned more then the master had in ten when at his age ....as he mussed he thought the only thing now is to teach him the final arts ....death magic ..reserver for the warrior mages ..and never to one this young ...and of course there was his test in the tower of sorcery ...which yet again has never been done by a mage so young ..but the talent is there ...he devoured the most complex as if nothing .....
something in the air was wrong ..as he sensed a presence he spun and a dark mist was forming in the center of the room ...startled he chanted words of power ..and a dark hand steaked out of the mist ...

I think Marg is right. There are some budding writers here. This is a good place to sharpen skills. You have a great imagination and an ability to hold someones interest.
i will post more ..just i got called back to work and 60 hours a week in construction is tough on me lol and no way is it the end of garion ..just you wait and see what i have in store for this story :)
as garion got to his room across the courtyard ..he paused ,something was wrong ..he frowned ,and stopped ..then he heard or rather felt th booms of magic and looked to the tower to see flashes of lightning and fire burst threw the window...racing back he screamed the masters name ..racing up the stairs .he saw blackened remnants of the door ..he stopped ...dread in his stomach ..he walked in to see the master ,hair mussed and cloths singed ..but smiling as he saw garion ..well boy he said ...

the seals have been broken ..and we now have no time ...your final lessons are to begin ....garion sat looking shocked at the devastation as the master chanted ..the room began to right itself as charred books were made whole ,black scorches faded away ,...garion asked ,...what happened master ?...the master turned and said ..it was a stalker ....but he wasnt looking for me ..and with a puzzled look the master said he was looking for you i believe ...garions jaw dropped and eyes wide stammered ..me? why? ...the master smiled and said boy..i told you ..there is something about you that is waiting to come forth ..so we better get started ..and garion failed to notice the worried look in the masters eyes .....
later that week ..a messenger arrived..horse lathered ..the rider dismounted and strode towards the master and spoke ..master morex ..i come from king abren with a plea ..three days ago the outlying duchies were over run by the darkness 45 of the guard rode out and have not returned ...strange lights flicker in the darkness and a foul stench proceeds it ..the king has sent me to rally the wizards and beg for your help ...and speaking softly the rider spoke ..i fear the kingdom is dire peril master ..the master stroking his beard finally spoke saying ..i will call the council of sorcerers ..and closed his eyes and muttered words that the rider could not understand ..feeling his hair start to rise at the base of his neck ...a shadow formed with mist gathering and getting bigger till it was man sized ..a figure stepped out of a ancient looking wizard ..speaking the wizard said .. morex ..i already know .. all the norther lands are dark and silent .....master morex smiled and said ..yes brother i know ..its been a long time ..and the ancient wizard smiled and said yes brother ..as they walked apart from the rider and garion whose eyes were confused ..the rider spoke to garion ...i hope the council will be able to help us all..garion replied ..the wizards are mighty and will help ...but garion was afraid ..the stories of his nightmares were in the north
