We walked along the west side of the mountain. It was dusk and the sun had said its goodby with a brilliant portrait. Already we could see the twinkling of lights in the valley below. Finding a perfect place for reclining, we spread our blanket. Except for the breeze and a whippoorwill calling for its mate, the world was quiet and still. I put my arm around her. She leaned close to me with unspoken approval. Night came and the serene landscape disappeared into darkness. The heavens opened and the stars appeared. So endless was the sight. Again, the infinity of time and place was more than I could understand. This could not have happened by chance. Beauty is always created...There was no need for conversation as we lay together, gazing upward, deep in to the night. Time became irrelevant. Our immediate surroundings were of little consequence...The stars were out.
