Cerebral hemorrhage after ischemic stroke

My beloved 67 year old mother had a left sided ischemic stroke this past Saturday. She was paralyzed on her right side and not able to talk. They administered thrombolytics and by the evening she was able to move both her legs and although she still couldn't articulate she could understand us and squeeze our hands to answer yes or no. Overnight on Saturday she developed a bleed in the in the original region of the ischemic stroke. She is now comatose and on a ventilator although she can still breath on her own. I realize the prognosis is poor and the neurologist has said the same thing. They have told us to wait til this Friday to see if the clot region( which is baseball sized) starts to reabsorb and then figure our next step from there. My mom has always said she didn't want to ever be a vegetable hooked up to a bunch of machines and we want to respect her wishes. If they recommend hospice we will bring her home and hire in home care. We will not put a trach tube in as she wouldnt want that. My question to all of you is is there any hope at all? I am trying to stay as positive as I can and I keep tellings my siblings about stories I've been reading and unexpected recoveries. My hope is that once the swelling goes down maybe she'll regain some consciousness and we can go from there. Am I crazy? I know that neural pathways can reroute from damaged regions ( which would be a large part of her left brain) and I am holding out a glimmer of hope that she can have some quality of life if she can make it through this initial phase of injury. Does anyone have a similar scenario they could share that had a positive outcome? We are devastated and need support.

Hello

my mom is in the similar situation right now, and she also had the same wishes as your mom.  How long has your mom been in respirator? How is she doing now?  Please let me know because I also do not know what to do.

I wondered how your mom was doing?  I am new to this site and new to strokes.  My husband is 56 and has had 4 brain hemorrhages since June.  Write back and let me know the progress with your mom.
