My hubby,had an acute stroke wk ago.He,only has right side weakness.
Is,he now apt. to having another?  Tks,for any help

The risk of a second stroke depends on many factors including the cause of the first stroke and overall health. Get as much information as you can from the doctors and remember FAST (face- one side of the face droops, arms - one arm isn't responding like the other, speech - slurred or seems different, time).   Strokes are scary. It is good that you are asking questions and getting more information.

I agree.  It's very scary and everyone needs to understand more about the circumstances related to their own stroke.  Have you had one or a loved one?

Hello and welcome.  Sorry about your husband's stroke!  Is he in the hospital?  What would be helpful is if you knew if he had an ischemic stroke (from a blood clot) or a hemorrhagic stroke (caused by a burst or torn blood vessel).  If you aren't sure which, this is a good question for his doctor.  When weakness is on the right side of the body, that means the stroke occurred on the left side of the brain.  Other things on that side are things like speech, writing and reading, and changes in mood.  

What is the follow up for his stroke last week?

Remember the warning signs . . . FAST.  Which stands for:

F = Face: One side of the face droops.
A = Arms: One arm starts to drop when both arms are raised.
S = Speech: Speech is slurred or sounds different than usual.
T = Time: A person who is having a stroke needs to be seen immediately. A stroke is a medical emergency that needs immediate treatment. Some medicines and treatments work best if given within a few hours of a stroke.
