My Wife

My wife is 39 years old and in good health. About 3 days ago she experienced and severe headache in the right temple area. Blurred/lost vision, black outs, and vomiting shortly followed. She has had it occur several times a day since, with exception of the vomiting. She also complained of lost motor skills; for example, she was helping our young daughter with home work and could not write or print letters or numbers. Each time she gets this pain she has trouble seeing, especially in the right eye and has frequent ringing in her her. It usually gets better within 2-3min. I am extremely concerned as I cannot get her to go get checked by a doctor as she "does not believe in doctors". (she believed in them when our 4 kids were born, believe me ). Please advise me as to what I should do.

Please please get her seen urgently.
My husband had TIA symptoms for 6 weeks and has now had a massive stroke from which he may die. If only we had been able to have him diagosed before it happened. We tried but it was too late.

rsm,
Everything you mentioned are symptoms of stroke. Even just one of these symptoms could mean a stroke, with all of those problems it sure does sound like it. I am sure that she is in denial. I know that most people think that strokes only happen to "old" people, but that is a myth. A stroke can happen to anybody at anytime with no warning whatsoever. Please take her to the ER at once. I didn't want to go to the hospital either, but my wife made me go and I am so glad that I went. The longer she waits, the longer chance that some damage could be permanent. Here are stroke symptoms right from the National Stroke Assoc:

Common stroke symptoms seen in both men and women:

Sudden numbness or weakness of face, arm or leg -- especially on one side of the body
Sudden confusion, trouble speaking or understanding
Sudden trouble seeing in one or both eyes
Sudden trouble walking, dizziness, loss of balance or coordination
Sudden severe headache with no known cause

Women may report unique stroke symptoms:

sudden face and limb pain
sudden hiccups
sudden nausea
sudden general weakness
sudden chest pain
sudden shortness of breath
sudden palpitations
Call 9-1-1 immediately if you have any of these symptoms

Make her read it herself:

Let me know if I can help.
God Bless,
Tim
