Stroke after dry cough

I had a stroke in May 2007.  I am now back to work>  I still have some lack of fine motor skills and strength on my right side and some difficultly with speech.  My speech is not cognitive but enunciation.  My question - I have a dry cough.  It is most prevelant at night.  It also comes on sometimes when I am having a conversation with someone.  I have noticed this since coming from the hospital in May.

My ability to swallow was affected.  I received therapy that stimulated the nerves in my face and throat with electrical currents and it got much better.  I would say it is much improved and nearly back to 100%.  I do notice that I have trouble "making" myself cough which I do often to clear the tickle going on.  I am not taking any of the medications that you reference.
Thank You for comments and I will consult my doctor on my next visit.

It is possible that your stroke may have affected your swallowing ability somewhat and you cough because your gag reflex is poor.   You should ask what area of the brain was affected by your stroke exactly.   The other question is: where you placed on any medications such as ACE inhibitors (enalapril (vasotec), ramipril, etc ?  ) -- those can often cause a dry cough but if you stop taking them (only after talking to your doctor) the cough will go away.
