Stroke and death in the family

How do you tell a mother who had a stroke that affected her cognition that her child passed away? Do you even tell her?

Hello and welcome to the forum. Gosh, what a tough question. My heart goes out to this situation. The idea of causing a mother to grieve again for her child is heartbreaking. I would take into consideration the effect it would have at this time. Holistically healing someone may mean that you withhold this information but that is a personal choice. What is the current status of your loved one? Is recovery expected in terms of awareness? Post stroke depression and inability to handle emotions is something that care providers want to know about and look for. I would consult with her provider post stroke. Let us know how she is doing.
