Im sad and ssorry to say that my boyfriend Frederick passed away this 3/12/10 At 2:00am. He went to the rehad facility on tue. on wed. he suffered through another massive stroke on the same side as the first due to swelling and bleeding his brain shifted and caused his heart to stop. He was put on full life support after his heart had stopped 5-6 times on wed. The doctors said there was nothing they could do and pronounced him brain dead. He lasted about 24 hrs. He will be truly missed as he was truly loved by many. This should be a lesson for all of us to take better care of ourselves and our loved ones. Thank you all for your help i was comforted by the advise as well as by the stories of recovery. I wish you all the best.
Angie
Thanks so much for your reply thats good info you guys gave I really appricate you taking the time to reply. Mr boyfriend went to the rehad facility today. On sunday while i visited with him he sat up like he wanted to get out of bed. He used his left side to do but he did sit up he has had some theapy while in the hospital so I'm still praying. Thanks again
To find out what the chances are for complete recovery you will need to get a 3d map of the dead area. The size and location of that will tell you what kind of rehabilitation you will need to do. The penumbra(ask your doctor the size and area of that - he will say he has no idea) normally will spontaneously recover with lots of rehab in 6-12 months. For starters read the book, Stronger After Stroke by Peter Levine and you will know more than your medical staff.
I am sorry for your boyfriend to have a stroke at a very young age. The younger the better for recovery but also depending on severity of damage by the stroke can delay the healing process. He will be very tired following a stroke and doing rehab, but stimulating him to relearn what he lost will be the best you can do for him so he can have a chance at a recovery.
