taste distortion

I had a subarachnoid haemorrhage 18 months ago and have recovered well.  Howver have been left with very distorted taste - a lot of things taste too strong - eg I can taste the yeast in bread so it tastes mouldy and I can taste something like sulphur in vegetables and other foods.  The only foods I enjoy and which taste the same are dairy foods.

I realise I'm very lucky to be alive and as well as I am but I do find this problems difficult to cope with.  My GP has never met anyone with it and my neurologist has heard of it but not met anyone with it either so feeling quite isolated with it.  Would like to hear from someone who's experienced the same.

Have sort of given up on it getting better as surely it would have happened by now?

My brother-in-law had an an Aneurysm four weeks ago and has already been allowed to eat (which we are so thankful) but nothing that he eats tastes right. He said it tastes "like crap". Anything with sugar is too sweet and everything we tried today he couldn't stand the taste.
I read that it may have to do with the nerves where the tube was inserted for drainage, the statement said that if there has been a loss of smell associated with the distorted taste there is hope for correction of the problem.
Thanks for saying about the dairy products... we'll give that a try!

hi
had a stroke three weeks ago and I have taste issues. I can't taste much but I can smell really well. Taste just not there for somethings.  Bizarre. no one will address the issue either.
