It's very important that you at least speak with your family doctor, no one should feel the way you do, but you need to find the courage to speak up and be your own best advocate. Xanax is only a temporary solution. It sounds like there is more going on and it's important you speak to a psychiatrists to figure out what's the root of your issues, once you figure that out, trust me you will feel better, hang in there.
I agree with SpikeRusty ~ that was some sound advice. PLEASE Don't Hurt Yourself! Get help in any way shape or form ~ NOW. there are 100's of 800 #'s available for emergencies ~ and they're anonymous ~ you can tell all and get some good short term support; then get a referral from your GP or walk in to one of the clinics in your area and ask for help! I've found many of the people here very supportive and helpful in providing information!
Xanax treats the anxiety symptoms but not the cause. And many anti anxiety med's, including xanax, are addictive, which it sounds like you're already aware of... so taper off when you're ready. Cold turkey quit will give you the anxiety you're trying to treat.
Even another type of anti-depressant could be a short term solution if you think you're in real danger, and it sounds like you think you are. The med's can be a short term solution!
I'm a "suicide survivor" in that, my Step-Dad of 34 years suicided in '93. It's a horrible experience!! Yet I've had my own "suicidal ideation" (dark thoughts) this past year. It's eerie and hard on people around us that don't understand depression/ptsd/anxiety.
Have you tried any bio-feedback, meditations, soothing music, or exercise? Many people use these in addition to or instead of medications, depending on what works for them. Exercise increases the feel good endorphins that most bodies produce normally, so that's one healthy option. Just thinking about you ~ contact me anytime! Wosh.
hi natezeki, it sounds like your going through a terrible time. things will get better, as medication is only one of a range of treatments which could be used alongside psychological counsellinng or specific therapies but you'll be needing to be strong and approach yer GP or Doctor about. Medication does'nt work immediately possibly like some soft illicit drugs and alcohol do, as gradually it builds up its effect over a number of weeks in your body. i don't know your circumstances but are you able to approach your parents, trusted sibling or older adult about your distressing feelings?? this would help as the weight of the world appears to be on your shoulders that you don't know what to do with it, hence you feeling so bad that you have those dark thoughts. Be brave and approach your GP, things do get better.. best wishes
