Hi!
At rest, the muscles around the joints relax. This causes rubbing of the bones around the joint. There are two conditions which cause pain in a joint while at rest. One is arthritis, preferably osteoarthritis and the other is tendonitis. This is typically seen in osteoarthritis in initial stages. Do discuss this with your doctor and get yourself examined. Take care!
