I self harm, and I can't stop...

I've cut for a while now, I know I don't want to die. But it's my only way out. My dad yells and abuses me mom, and the cops already know, and he's already been to jail. I'm 13, and he yells at me, makes me cry, telling me I'm worthless. I do try! I'm in National Junior Honor Society, advanced classes, A's and B's, Cross Country, Tennis, and Swimming. I always do my best, but he always yells, and I'm afraid I'll be the one who gets slapped or hit next, like my mom. I have a 10 year old brother, and he is dealing with anger issues, and he knows what's going on. He see's that my dad sells my moms pain pills (She has a hurt neck, dad threw her on a table!) and I don't really have much else to say. Just that I keep cutting and cutting, and I want to stop.

But how? Please, help </3

I'm sorry to hear about your dad and the abuse. I really want to help but I know no one can help u really except yourself. Self harm is a coping mechanism.  I did that when I was in college.  The only thing that helped me was playing the piano, baking and distracting myself by going on walks.  Of course that didn't always help.  If the urges get really bad; take some ice cubes and hold them in your hand tightly until they melt.  Or take a red marker and draw on your skin. Rubber bands on your wrist help to but it's still hurting yourself; it just doesn't leave permanent marks and it's not as dangerous.
I'm sorry to hear about your family again :( I would tell you to get out of that place with your mom and brother but it's easier said then done.
I hope you the best!

Hi,

Gosh this is a sticky situtation. I had a childhood with abuse in it as well. Unfortunately you are going to be forced to grow up before you are ready. You do have choices here though. You can stand up for you and your brother, or hide. Examples of standing up for you can br your calling protective services, having a conversation with your Mom about how this needs to stop, or simply going to a different room or going outside to save you and your brother the stress. This is your choice.

Also, cutting is not an acceptable form of coping with your emotions.  You need to find something else that will help you. Some suggestions are writing, painting, listening to music. Any distraction is good so your mind can have a break. Just pick something healthy.

I hope my post helps you. Much love to you and your family.
