Can bare;y open my mouth an Inch after Tooth Exaction?

About a month ago I was in the hospital due to an infection caused by two molars on my right side. Prior to that I was unable to open my mouth more than half an inch for about two weeks and it hurt really bad to even swallow liquids. So that was why I went to the hospital. I got the infection taken care of and was released from the hospital. Last Friday i had the two molars extracted and I'm on day 4 (not counting the day of surgery) and I'm still unable to open my mouth more than 3/4 an inch.

The dental Surgeon said I should be able to open my mouth normal but never gave me a time frame nor on if I should be doing anything to help. Basically I'm 2 months now on varying ability to open my mouth and it's quite scary and annoying not being able to eat more than basically soups and small foods. Any help would be much appreciated.

Hello~I am sorry you are having this pain, that takes all the enjoyment out of life.

From your description, it appears to me like you have an issue with your TMJ (Temporomandibular Joint)You could have dislocated it while you mouth was open so long during the extraction. I would certainly ask you dentist about this. There are devices a person can wear and also treatments for it, such as an anti-inflammatory.

I hope you feel better soon.
