Have your dentist check your occlusion---it is possible a crown or filling is a little bit high and needs to be ground down. This takes a few minutes and is painless. Then, after you've been to the dentist, sure, go to a chiropractor that has tmj training. I actually had a chiropractor put my jaw back in place after 22 years of it being subluxated. No oral surgeon could fix it non-surgically and then the chiropractor did. Wish I had known this earlier. As for the muscle pain, ask your dentist or doctor for a muscle relaxant, such as Flexiril, to help break up the spasms that can hurt badly. Good luck.
Seeing a tmj or Orofacial pain specialist is advised.
