Does anyone out there have neuralgia pain along with their TMJ or TMD pain???

Does anyone out there have neuralgia pain along with their TMJ or TMD pain???  I've been tested for trigeminal neuralgia several times and they are telling me I don't have it, or facial neuralgia, yet it fits the description according to the pain I am having.  My pain is extreme, and I am taking various meds that are making me sick... Wondering if anyone else is in this position..

In case you didn't run across my other couple of posts, my original name on here was seekandfind46, but is now therese46.  I am the one looking into neuromuscular dentistry for this problem.  I found one in Toronto Ontario, that uses different types of splints and devices, and suggested using the ALF on me on my upper teeth.  I really do hope I am on the right route....

Hi Again,

I just found your post here after I wrote to you previously, or at least think you may be the same doctor.  I read about that too, and isn't that the textbook that was written for proffesional practioners... I came across that, and also Dr. Terrance Spahl, wrote a book and article on the missing link between Neuragia even TN's and the TMJ joint.  I read that the other day in fact, and that is why I have been looking into this, but I tell you I am also on the TMJ association forum and all the tell you is that this treatment changes your bite and that is not reversible and it is taking a chance, just like surgery.  I tell you there a so many conflicting thing on this... Many doctors would tell you off if you told them the neuralgia is related.  And I thought the TMJ.org site would be one that knew, and they discourage anything saying that it will heal up eventually.  Meanwhile there is people on there that have been suffering for so many years, with no improvement.  I also ran across this other Dr, that deals with chiropractic methods, for TMJ that he says dpn't require splints or orthodontics, and he is saying that TMJ has nothing to do with bad bite or malocclusion problems.  He studied cranial methods, like the crane condylar lift, and other milder methods of manipulations, but he is based out of Colorado, and its impossible for me to get there, as he says it requires weeks of treatment, and then monthly.  I don't know if you have ever heard of any of this.... You can find him under TMJ without splints or braces... I am glad that you wrote back, hoping to hear from you on this...

Yes I had terrible pain that went clear up into my temple.  I often say I would not have the surgery again if I could turn back time, but thats because they cut a nerve and I now look like a pirate(everyone says they can't see it ha). However the no head aches, and the no jaw cracking loud enough to hear it down the hall, I don't miss. The painful jaw locking...........no I think get it taken care of if you can.

It has been established by research of Dr Annika Isberg of Sweden that nerve impingment can occur with a disc displacement of the TMjoint.  This can produce neuralgia type pain.  I have seen and successfully treated cases where this has been suspected.   Medications are not effective for this.  But you need to see a well qualified TMJ specialist to get an accurate diagnosis.  TMJ Doc

Most tmd pains are muscular pain, of  which  pain quality adn behavior are very different from trigeminal neuralgia. Seeing an orofacial pain specialist to establish the pain source is advised.
