EXTREME PAIN & DISCOMFORT IN JAW, NECK, SHOULDER

I feel like the whole left side of my body (head to toe) is seriously damaged.  I have extreme headaches on the left side of my head along with extreme discomfort and pain in the skull, jaw, neck, shoulders.  The left side of my shoulder, neck, face, and even cranium is swollen and has been getting more and more swollen over the years.  I do not know if it's a domino effect from the bottom (feet, lower back, or shoulder) to the top (jaw and skull) or from the top to the bottom, or a bunch of separate problems.  I have gone to a TMJ dentist and have gotten no relief from the mouth splint.  I do not know who to go to.  PLEASE HELP!!

Dr. Nassery's advice us very good.  I might add though that many patients with your symptoms (especially with a trauma history) have cranial distortions that are one of the key elements that need to be addressed.  I do nueromuscular tmd/dentistry, etc. and it is a useful technique, but it doesn't take care of everything.  Many chiros and PT's do not address cranial either, but some do.  More DO's will address that as that is the discipline that it derived from.  But that is one more discipline that can help you.  Look for a dentist or osteopath(Cranial academy trained), or chiro with SOTO training.  PT's?  Postural Restoration Institute are the only ones I'm aware of.  Some massage therapist and PT's have taken the Upledger training.  These are all based on the same concepts, just different techniques to apply.  The best overall are usually the DO's as they are licensed physicians and can address some issues from the alopathic approach if needed.  Dentists/orthodontists with cranial training usually use the ALF appliance for cranial applications (my personal approach) that maintains the cranial adjustments for a longer period of time.  It's just one more 'tool' in the toolbox.  Hope that helps direct you.  TMJDoc

It sounds like you are having a very rough time.. I am sorry to hear. Though many of your signs and symptoms are similar to TMJ disorder.. you must first rule out any medical issues..make sure you have had a thorough medical exam to rule out any major medical issues..
In case that has been done, I would then look at the TMJ doctor.. like everything else there are many different modalities of treatment for TMJ and not all work the same. In my experience, the Nueromuscular approach has had the most reliable and highest rate of success when treating these issues. I should also tell you rarely these traetments are a single approach methodology.. Meaning you will perhaps need  a good chiropractor or physical therapist..
Hope this helps.
