joint capsule injury

I snapped my ring finger back pretty hard and far almost 2 weeks ago. I knew it would be sore, so I just iced it and took Tylenol and ibuprofen for the pain. A few days later it was very painful and my hand around my knuckle area was swollen. I went and had it checked for a break and they're was no visable break on the xray. My Dr put a cast/splint to keep me from bending it. Since it's only the hard cast part on the bottom of my hand and wrapped, I take it off at work. Its too bulky for what I do for work and I really have no choice but to work (single parent) I do put it back on when I get off, which i know is defeating the purpose. I go into the Ortho Dr on the 12th, because my Dr said it might be a torn ligament or busted joint capsule. Has anyone had this type of injury and what is the typical treatment/recovery time?
