palate pain

I have had a burning and itching sensation on my upper hard palate for about 4 months now and on the right side of the palate it feels as though there is a little hard swelling. The ithching and burning eventually went away but it seems as though it remains on the right side of the palate where it feels swollen and my tongue on the right side has a burning sensation and i also bite my tongue alot on that side.   these events all seem to have occured after having my teeth cleaned at first my teeth felt like the bite was off and then i began to have pain and clicking in my jaws which lead the burning sensations and the swelling of the hard palate. I have been to 4 oral maxillofacial surgeons 2 ENTs 1 dentist and 3 regular doctors who all says that the palate does not look swollen to them and 1 oral surgeon said that it may e fibrosa tissue but that it just looks assymetrical to him and all Drs. claim that they see nothing clinacally wrong in my mouth but I an still having this discomfort its not as bad as it was when it first started but it is still there can anyone please give me some kind of advice of what to do next it would be greatly appreciated and thanks in advance. PS. I also have a burning sensation in my shoulders and behind my nose on the right side also.

Without getting too technical, if you do have 'clicking' in your TMjoint there is the possibitlity that the displaced disc can lead to some nerve entrapment that will cause the symptoms you describe.  I have seen this with patients and it is NOT common.  So will be hard pressed to find any specialist who may believe you (or me).  I would refer them to the work of Dr. Annika Isberg and her book Temperomandibular Joint Dysfunction--there's an excellent chapter on nerve entrapment.  The good news is that with proper splint therapy designed to get you functioning properly on the articular disc of the TMjoint, the nerve entrapment is usually relieved.  At times, nerve block injections(coritsone) are needed to treat inflammation of the nerves.   Honestly, very few dentists/oral surgeons and almost no MD's are aware of this condition.  You need an experienced and knowledgable orofacial pain/TMD specialist and you may have to travel to find one.  If you want to send me a private message about you location I will attempt to find someone close to you.  TMJDoc

hi, yes your dentist will refer you to a maxo specialist and ENT will refer you also post hep pain feels a lot like your symptons, ie, shoulder pain  go see one and get checked out, everyone should be entitled to second and third opinions, good luck

have had an  MRI a cat scan of the head and face and also panorex x-rays of the teeth and they found nothing so im comfused as of what to do next. the last time I seen the oral surgeon I asked him if I could be reffered to another specialist since he couldnt pin point the problem and he dismissed me as if i was crazy and making things up. but  before every thing began I have been going through panic attacks and anxiety which made me clench my teeth relentlessly but I dont know if clenching my teeth could cause all  of these problems but how do I get to see an orofacial pain specialist do I need a refferal from my dentist?  thank you

hi lady i agree with scottma you need to them and you never mentioned iff you have had a cat scan or an mri scan i would be asking for one of these iff i was you, please don,t be put off ,keep pushing and you will find some answers and hopefully a diagnosis , good luck
