Wisdom tooth extraction at 40? Headache and ear pain related?

I am going to have my impacted wisdom tooth and another descending wisdom tooth pulled. They just came in. I have been having nothing but pains in my sinus/tooth/ear area ever since having a deep filling done, which turned into a root canal. It has been more than 2 months and I still feel awful? I am terrified to have the wisdom tooth surgery. Any chance my pains are related? I still have sensitivity in the root canal tooth, which my dentist told me was not possible. Ugh. Am I too old for surgery?

As long as you are not medically compromised, removal of wisdom teeth is generally safe.

To me your are asking the wrong question.  Nothing you related in your history or symptoms would lead me to think that at your age the wisdom teeth would suddenly be responsible for your pain.  It's possible but I suspect other issues.  Since I don't have all the facts and can't exam you, my suggestion would be to see an orofacial/tmj specialist to determine the true cause of your pain(that's what we do).  YOur dentist is correct about the sensitivity, and the root canal procedure should have eliminated the pain if its origin was that tooth.  This just doesn't add up.  You should be able to handle the oral surgery if you are in good health, but truthfully I would have the pain diagnosed before doing that, and then it may be elective if it is not the cause of your current symptoms.

Thank you. You are right but I am desperate for relief from the pain. This morning I woke up with a horrible earache, with loud noises in my ear. Thought I had sinus problems before and my MD gave me a 10 day course of Keflex, which I am on my last day of.  The headaches have been relentless, and I never suffered from them before. I just figured it was my wisdom teeth because the one that came down just broke thru my gums about 5 months ago.  Sinus x-ray was normal. Thanks for you advice. I have Kaiser for only a few more weeks, so we will see how this progresses Thanks again!.
