hard to talk

I have problems in my back and neck, just had neck surgery.  I thought for sure this would help my facial and front of the neck pains, but it only made it worse.  So, I know I'm a teeth grinder, very bad too.  Has anyone ever had trouble actually forming words because of TMJ?  It also hurts right around my mouth area.  I've been looking up muscles and it kind of feels like the Pterygoid muscles may be causing me problems.  If I could find anyone with this same problem then I wouldn't feel like the biggest freak in the world.  Please answer!!!

Thanks for letting us know we are not alone which is what it feels like when as you say we are ignored and shoved off.  What nerves do you think are involved?  I have tried Botox in my neck and muscles of the jaw/face and that does give some relief.  You may want to just try a pain clinic until we can find an answer.  I know how it is tho. Its hard to even want to talk to people and so hard to get someone to understand what you're going thru.  I am still looking for answers and will keep you updated.  thanks again for writing.

Hi There,

I am also having the same problems too.  I am in agony of pain with it as there is some pinched nerves involved, but I cannot talk as well, and I tell you this puts in in a horrible situation.  I feel that I have no life anymore.  I have been to doctors and specialists and sick of being ignored or shoved off.  They even sent me to a speech pathologist, and the speech pathologist said, why would they send me to you, you need a specialist that can deal with your jaw.  Yes, well the thing is the controversy continues.  What can I do, and I am just plain sick to death of trying to find someone credible.  So I live with this constant pain that no medication seems to address.  SO I do know what you are talking about and also share your misery!

wow!  Thank you for answering me.    Does it feel like muscle pulling around your mouth to you?  Yes, do let me know what your dentist says.  I get so embarrassed most of the time and I'm tired of explaining it to doctors and having them look at me strange.  Thanks again for reading my post.

Hi, I have TMJ and for some time now I have a hard time talking to.  I know what I am trying to say, but the words don't seem to want to come out.  My mouth will twitch when I am talking and the words come out broken and loud (at times).  I would like to find out more about this as well.  I don't know if this is coming from TMJ- i will talk to my dentist when I go back to see him.  I have noticed it has gotten worse, since i found out that I have TMJ, so i assume that's one of the symtoms.

Good luck to you, i hope you find your answers.
