A request about thyroid

I'm very much, tensed when asking this question ,ma girl friend had a swelling on neck and when tested came to know in thyroid the glance of cancer is visible and now it is removed totally and doctor said marriage must be avoided for a year,will i be able to have a normal life with her in future,now im very far form her i cant ask to doctor directly the matters plz plz plz help me

It is possible that the doctor meant to avoid pregnancy for one year -- often suggested after I-131 (radioactive iodine) treatment.  Sexual relations can be resumed usually 7 days after the I-131.  In the absence of receiving I-131 treatment, I do not know what the one year avoidance issue is....

Hi,

I am sorry to hear about your girlfriend. I do not know what you mean about marriage to be avoided. If she had RAI, then she should avoid being with people for a few days and not getting pregnant for a year. maybe that was what the doctor meant. She can have a normal life. Just need to have regular checkup to make sure everything is ok. I know some people who have thyroid cancer and they are very alive. Some are even 80 years old. This is a very curable cancer.
