I have taken Synthroid .125 for nearly 20 years with no problems, after a hypothyroid diagnosis. Now, suddenly, after a goiter appeared and a high number of antibodies were present in a blood test, I have been newly diagnosed with Hashimoto's thyroiditis.
Unfortunately, my doctor believed that the .125 of Synthroid was too high. She has decreased the dosage, first to .111, then to .100. With each new dosage, I have gained more weight. I now feel like an overfed moose.
My TSH levels are now 0.17, but I feel terrible. I have hair loss, memory loss, and am having panic attacks. What should I do next? She insists that I must not "overdose" on Synthroid, but I don't want to be a bald bowling ball either. What options do I have? I thought (mistakenly) that this diagnosis would mean I would need MORE Synthroid, not less. HELP!
