Have your doctor check your Vitamin D levels. My Endocrinologist did this for me about 6 months ago. The D level was very low. She rechecks my labs every 2-3 months and the D level is coming up. Feeling so much better.
I was not sure how to post a question directly to you, so I am doing it here. I am a 36 year old female. In Sept '09 I was feeling fatigued, had insomnia, was not gaining any weight no matter how much I ate, bruising easily and had back pain. When to general doc for blood work. Results showd Free T4 1.97 and TSH <.005. Doc suggested see an endo. Made appt for end of Oct (earliest I could ge). 3rd week of Oct went on vacation with my husband, cruise...Had one hour seaweed wrap, eat a ton of shell fish and just felt great when we got back. Saw Endo, she ordered more blood and uptake and scan. Went that day for blood and two days later for uptake and scan. This would be exactly 1 1/2 weeks from my vacation. Results: Free T4 2.04, TSH <.005, T3 246. Uptake and scan showed 27% thyroid uptake at 4 hrs and 53% uptake at 24 hrs. No nodules and thyroid was normal size. begin 10mgs methimazole, she diagnoised me with Grave's disease based on those tests. 1 week later blood work again. Free T4 1.36, TSH <.006, T3 116. 3 days later I broke out in Hives from neck to my feet, and severe pain in feet and ankles. Endo took me off methimazole and stated to schedule RAI. I refused the RAI. After being off meds for 1 week, blood again, results were Free T4 1.60 TSH <.006 ,but now I also have IgG p41 AB present and IgM P41 Ab present and Antichromatin Antibodies 3.1 (high) and Anti Centromere B Antibodies 1.9 (high). 1 1/2 weeks off of meds, developed severe pain in my wrists, hands and shoulders. Hives finally disappeared. 2 weeks off of all meds, but eating very healthy, I have no pain, no hives and I feel great! i have not had another blood work done yet.
i am seeking another Endo.
i was wondering what those results would indicate to you as a Doctor.
thank you
Jeannette
Just had blood chemistry from Primary Care. TSH was a little out of range:4.84. T4 a normal 1.2. This is first time I have had an abnormal TSH. I have been taking for past 6 mos. 1 mg. melatonin at night for sleep assistance. Could this account for out of range TSH? Should I consult an endocrinologist? I am a 75 year old male in excellent health.
I have been diagnosed with Graves Disease..my blood test showed am Hyperthyroid...and took thyroid scan.. Hyperthyorid... My Dr says I am hyperthyroid with Graves disease. yet I don't have problem losing a lot of weight.. I am concerned in taking the medicine... I might end up gaining more weight...very hopeful for you answer...Take Care...
I have had my Vit. D check. It was done in the first month. Normal..I actually wish that was it bc it would be an easier fix. I think I am getting a handle on my breathing tho. probably seasonal ast. for the first time. That is better than a heart condition. Thanks for the input. Take care...

Yes, my endo. mention a t3 addition if the lower dose does not work. I am giving it 4 weeks before I consider another dr. My next visit will be with a rheumatologist. Thanks for the input. What is your thoughts on Nutri-West Total thyroid and Nutri West DSF formula? I have a friend who says it has helped her a lot. Thanks..
The TSH levels look okay.
Would consider non-thyroid causes - perhaps a rheumatology evaluation
Thyroid consideration would be combo T4/T3 treatment (ie, add cytomel) but this only helps 10-15% of patients in our experience.
