I am still undergoing several tests under the care of an internal medicine Dr, &I am awaiting results.I am still very sick.My throat/neck is very painful.It isn't a scratchy sore throat pain like when you have a cold or the flu-more like a dull ache, similar to the pain of earache (which I also have). My neck is stiff, with limited movement&I find it difficult to eat/swallow.The pain gets worse in the cold, put my chin to my chest, or take a deep breath.My heart rate is constantly over 100, even more so in the evening, or with mild exertion.I have several mouth ulcers.I have lost 15/20 lbs since May.My reflexes are over sensitive, & my legs, wrists, ankles twitch during the day, more so at night.I have not had a fever in several weeks.I have had a VQ scan & CXR to rule out a blood clot (long distance traveling and BCP), parvovirus IgM/IgG, EBV, Monospot, chem panel, and repeat t4, t3, LSH, echocardiogram, & ultrasound of thyroid.The only test result so far is the thyroid ultrasound which was normal.

Is the pain I am feeling in my throat consistent with hyperthyroidism? Are we missing something? I am pleased my internal medicine Dr is very thorough, but I have heard so many stories about adult Parvovirus sufferers being left with a legacy of health problems that are never fully diagnosed & I am worried I am starting to head down that path.

My TSH level was 0.2 last week. This makes sense, as a lot of my symptoms recently (20lb weight loss, nausea, palpitations in throat, throbbing pain in throat, itchy skin) point towards hyperthyroidism. However, my T4 level was in the normal range.What could be causing my extremely low TSH, but normal T4? I was diagnosed with parvovirus B19 in May 2010, and have been suffering with chronic fatigue, muscle and joint pain for the past 7 months. I have been taking Elavil each night (10/20mg depending on pain).I am a 27 year old female, 5'4, 120lbs.

Hi Parvosufferer, I have been diagnosed recently with hyperthyroidism and you have some of the same symptoms as I have. My TSH level in November was .2 with a free T3 that was within the normal range. I also had an u/s and nuclear thyroid scan done that confirmed I have several nodules which is causing me to have swallowing pain. I am currently in waiting as I am being referred to a endocrinologist. My dr is also an internist and has gone as far as he can with this. Unike most with hyperthyroidism, I do not lose weight. I have work at losing weight, but gain it quite easily. Good luck to you and I hope you find out soon.

Thank you for your post. I have not had the nuclear test yet, but ultrasound was clear. Swallowing pain comes and goes now, not as bad as it was. I also have an endocrinologist apt later in the month and also an ENT referral. I am still struggling to put weight on, even with the Christmas gorging.

TSH is slightly low - would repeat in 4-5 weeks and if still low test TSI to screen for Graves.
This could have been a transient thyroiditis with some pain - this would resolve on its own.
