Hypothyroidism

I am 42 years old.  I just had a blood test that showed an underactive thyroid.  My sister was diagnosed with thyroid cancer in her 20s.  Is it possible that I could have thyroid cancer?  Should I have an ultrasound?

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Hypothyroidism does not usually increase the risk of thyroid cancer, but with the family history and your abnormal thyroid blood test, would see an endocrinologist for complete evaluation.

I'm not a doctor but you should definitely see an endocrinologist and do an ultrasound- they can do a FNA biopsy if they find something
