it took me a year to figure out...it was the dye in the medication that was causing me hives, my eyes, my lips ,throat, my whole body was engulfed in hives....this happened to me while i was on synthroid..now i take eltroxin...but i only take the white pills..enough to equal a dosage

I just joined the board, and while browsing, saw your post. I had a problem similar to this when I started to take synthroid after a thyroidectomy. I am VERY allergig to many things. It ended up that I was allergic to the DYE that colored the pill.It took me a long time to figure out but after taking my dose with a lower dose white synthroid with no color in it and avoiding other products similar colorings, it went away.
You never know.

Hi this is weird as it happened a couple of times to me on Euthyrox which is levothyroxine. In the morning on waking my lips have been swollen, also I am more sun sensitive and have itchy arms.Only occasionally.   I started having nausea and headaches too mostly travelling which is unusual for me.  I rang my encrinologist and he said that there must be some change in hormones so has requested a blood test.  It is true as since I have started meds my menstrual cycle has been so out and almost none existent and a uterine fibroid increased in size.  Though I have to weigh this up with feeling better in myself on the meds, less depressed, loss of weight and more energy and generally better health.  Difficult to say.

doubt you are rejecting meds -- it is not likely thyroid med, but talk to your doctor about all the meds and supplements you are taking -- it sounds like some type of allergy -- again, it is unlikely to be an allergy to thyroid med
