SHOULD I BE VERY WORRIED?

Two years ago my throat Doctor found a small nodule in my thyroid, but it was not of concern at the time. She asked to monitor it after 3 months. I ignored it since she stated that many people has it. Two year after, I did a follow up to see if it grew since lately I been clearing my throat constantly, getting sore throats, can't breath, I been getting throat spasm and a lot of caugh as If was choking contantly. When I went and did the sonogram, they report states I have one right mid hypoechoic nodule 0.8 cm another in the lower pole of the right hypoechoic .9 cm and another one in the lower pole left side lobe this one is 1cm. Now I heard that Hypoechoic are potentially cancerous. CAN SOMEONE HELP clarify and give me some piece of mind. I got the reports before the doctor, but she will be calling soon. What do you think, should I worry!?

In  Sept. 2007 my doctor found a lump on my thyroid. It was small but he still wanted to do  an ultra-sound. He did the ultrasound and found a nodule .6 cm on the left side of my thyroid. He wanted me to have a biopsy done to check. When i had the biopsy they could not find the node but found another that was .6 cm on the other side of thyroid. A week later I got the call telling me I had cancer. i had the least aggressive form of thyroid cancer. ( I am sorry but the exact name escapees me and i am to tired to get my file out) In Dec. of that year I had my thyroid removed . Even though I had the least aggressive kind it had spread to 5 lymph-nodes
. I am glad my doctor double checked. I had no history of thyroid cancer nor any radiation exposure. I am not a regular case, most come back non cancerous. just letting you know a little prevention can go along way. I hope everything will be fine.

Most nodules are hypoechoic - and only about 10% of nodules are cancer so in most cases we do not consider biopsy until these are > 1cm -- would continue to monitor with ultrasound unless you have a history of radiation exposure as a child or a family history of thyroid cancer or the nodules have irregular borders / microcalcifications.

The Doctor just called me and stated that it was normal. I am sorry but originally we were monitoring the first nodule to see if it grew and it did!. Now I have additional 2 nodules. I will get a second opinion it is weird that I should continue to wait if something may be developing there!
