Small dose of Levothyroid

I was started on Levothyroid 12.5 mcg for Hashimoto's thyroiditis. I took this dose for 6 weeks and tried to up it to 25 mcg. After 7 days my scalp was crawling and my heart racing. I lowered it back down and after 2 days was fine. I am again trying to up the dose to 25 mcg. It's been 2 days and I am getting anxiety symptoms.

My TSH was 4, my t4 and t3 were normal, although at the low end of normal, and my TPO anitibodies >1000, TSI 95%. I have a past history of an episode of a-fib about 9 years ago that hasn't returned.

My question is, with a normal TSH is taking this med really warented? My doctor thinks I am having anxiety about taking the meds but I can take the 12.5 just fine.

Also, does thryoiditis cause spine pain? This seems to flare up when I increase the med as well. thanks

You need to have your Frees tested. FT3 and FT4. It's obvious that you have Hashi's since your antibodies are so high.
You may be very sensitive to these meds and it might take a very long time to get up to the dose you need. Take it slow and listen to your body. Take care. Remar

You can ask your Dr for a copy of your results and post them in the Thyroid forum. The people there are very knowledgeable about thyroid problems. If your not in the higher end of the Free ranges then you probably need to increase your meds.
Is your Dr testing TSH, FT3 and FT4? Obviously he/she checked your antibodies because you know you have Hashi's.
If your not converting then you may need to add a T3 med. Take care. Remar

A TSH of 4, even w/ Hashi (high TPO) does not require treatment.  Usually TSH >10 requires definite treatment.  So if not tolerating meds, then consider a trial w/o.
However a high(ish) TSH may promote goiter growth....this is one consideration in deciding on treatment.
