TSH 4.77 no treatment

I have most of the symptoms of Hypothyroidism and recent blood test showed TSH 4.77 but doc will not treat because I have previous history of stroke (she's concerned the side effect of heart palpatations may cause another stroke) and am at high risk for osteoporosis.  I am concerned though because I am blind in one eye am suspect for glaucoma in the other and having some trouble with my good eye now.  I physically recovered from my stroke very quickly but continue to have problems with memory, concentration and fatigue that is not constant yet regular.  I previously attributed those to my stroke but am now concerned its due to my thyroid.

I am wondering if I should discuss this more with my doctor or try to get a second opinion or accept it given my medical conditions and history?

after being on levoxyl for seven years-never being told that synthetic thyroid meds cause bone loss. I'm 53 and had a bone density test and it showed to begining of ostiperosis. i told my doctor that i wanted to go on natural thyroid. he finallly agreed, and hopefully the bone loss will stop. i do not know why they do not tell their patients this. the only thing is that i seem to be gaining weight and feel bloated. not sure i can stay on this, just waiting for my next test results.

Whenever you have heart palpitations or arythmias your heart is not beating as correctly as it should which can leave blood sitting in some areas of your heart to clot a bit and then can be released back to your bloodstream to travel to your brain thereby causing a stroke.

If I've remembered correctly some of the information I read, the medication is a synthetic hormone and can affect the calcium in the bones thereby increasing the likelihood of osteoporosis.  I know I have had to cut out as much caffine as possible out of my diet because it can also leach calcium out of bones.  My mom has osteoporosis and I have other risk factors (small bones, etc.) so that is a concern.

I hope this helps.  Pam

I'm just curious as to why  your dr. feels that heart palps. would cause another stroke?  I didn't know that there was a link between the two.  Also, what is the link between thyroid meds. and being at high risk for osteoporosis.  I was diagnosed with Hashimotos 7 months ago and I am trying to learn as much as possible about this disease and its medications.
