The 1.1 cm right sided lesion is most consistent with a simple cyst, typically we do not biopsy these. The other is 0.9 cm and most cases we watch these, this sounds like a nodule potentially but also may be a cyst. The TSH is in the low normal range, the chance of Hashimoto's (usually hypothyroidism/high TSH) is low in this setting. Most likely the recommendation will be followup ultrasound in 6-12 months.
In 2008 right lobe measured 4.3x1.4x1.8 cm the entire gland is quite heterogeneous..no obvious focal is seen. Left lobe measured 4.2x1.1x1.6 cm and shows anechoic area with some internal shadowing about 9mm in maximum dimension..this was seen previous as well.
In 2011 right lobe measured 4.0x1.9x1.9 cm hypoechoic nodule in the lower pole measuring 5x6x8 mm unchanged to previous..
Left lobe 4.0x1.3x1.3 cm..7x5 mm mostly cystic nodule in the mid pole also relatively unchanged. Impression: heterogeneous gland with stable small cystic nodules..gp keeps telling me blood was is normal..I'm just not sure..please help..
I saw my ENT and he recommended FNA...good thing too...pre biopsy US found a missed nodule 2.4 x 1 cm in the lower right pole that they are calling ill defined..3 passes through each nodule and 1 cyst which did not decompress (solid cyst)? Just got the results back...all benign! See ENT on 1/17...do you think he will recommend watching ill defined nodule with follow up biposy...I know ill defined is not good...kinda worried even though all is well right now..Thanks!
