Tsh suppression gone wrong? Help please!

Hello I am 32 thyroid levels in normal range between 1.09 to 1.70 at times doctor found a non cancerous nodule thats 1cm on my thyroid that he has put me on 50mg synthroid to try and shrink since then I have been on it for about 3 to 4 weeks not feeling so well very tired and out of it at times the other day at work my blood pressure that is normally 117/70 went to 150/90 heart. Racing and my head felt really strange like I was going to pass out or stroke out....called him and he had my tsh check now it's 0.54 isn't that kinda low meaning I'm getting too much hormone...I honestly feel so terrible...he told me to stop meds for 2 days and restart with half a pill ...I'm also constipated and nausea with these pills...can't I stop them all together and go back to feeling better? Please help me!

Hello, I have been having symptoms that are related to hypothyroid at least according to a few different doctors that I have seen recently. However, they change their story completely when they get my blood results back from the lab and they say that there is nothing to worry about. However my newest doctor insists that I should get an ultrasound to verify if there are any nodules. My physical symptoms include rapid thinning of the hair(not related to male pattern hair loss according to a dermatologist) poor libido(I'm 25 and in good shape) and I'm feeling a little light in the undercarriage.

Hi Carrie!
My doctor did the same thing.  My thyroid levels were normal but I had this goiter that had grown.  I started taking the lowest dose of Eltroxin then Synthroid as an attempt to suppress the growth.  It only made my TSH drop too low.  After four months, the doctor said to stop taking the meds.  I stopped taking the synthroid thinking my TSH would go back up.  Instead it kept dropping and the free T4 and free T3 were off the charts a few months later.  I now am being treated for hyperthyroidism, caused by Graves Disease.  Did the medication trigger the Graves?  I can't find any research to support this.  Was it coincidental?  Perhaps.  In any event, stop taking the Synthroid.  I'm not a doctor, just sharing my own experience.

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Routine TSH suppression is no longer recommended for most patients with thyroid nodules.  Her baseline TSH was normal and unless there is a high risk history of radiation exposure, there usually is no reason for taking levothyroxine to "suppress" the TSH.
